"The longtime management team at Kramerbooks & Afterwords Cafe, a Dupont Circle institution, quit last week, its new owner Steve Salis confirmed.

People who left the company confirmed that they had done so in a coordinated effort after clashing with the new owner, according to three people familiar with the situation who spoke on the condition of anonymity for fear of reprisal."

It doesn't sound like Salis is doing anything unusual, expanding and adding more kids books. But when the entire management team quits at the same time, something is amiss. Kramerbooks is still essential for the neighborhood and IMO more important now than ever because of the loss of most other bookstores.

It is not to uncommon when there is a change in ownership for clashes between the new owner and previous staff. I really do not consider this all that unusual.

I just hope the new owners don't come in and mess things up.

well, you know, sometimes when you're used to doing things a certain way then somebody new comes in and starts doing things a totally different way, it can lead to conflict and resignations and protests and people screaming resist, it's true in business and a great many other things, if you know what I mean

It's pretty common when a new owner takes over that some old employees don't like the new direction and quit. It's also pretty common that the new owner brings on their own management. There are some mildly interesting accusations of embezzlement and no call/no shows....but really, it's par for the course.

Stories like this end up in WaPo because they are click bait. Readers want the gossip and the writers play up the intrigue to make it sound like there's all kinds of nefarious dealings going on. The parties involved either are trying to protect their name or win public sympathy by cooperating with the writers.

You can choose to feed the beast by reading it, or just ignore it and the story will quietly fade away on its own.

Ha! Sorry I was looking in the wrong spot. My friend works here and said the new ownership isn't that new though.
