Washington is plonked down in the district of Columbia. A little enclave chopped from the state of Maryland. Washington is ringed by a freeway bypass called beltway, which divide the urban insiders from the suburbanites. Street are arranged in a grid of north-south numbered streets and east-west letter streets. Most tourist sight are located around the capitol, along the mall and Northwest quadrant.
DC is service by three major airport: DCA, BWI, and IAD. Greyhound bus service connect Washington and Baltimore. Amtrak provides frequent rail service. Car can operated in rental, but driving car is a fool's errand in DC city. Taxi are viable option for short trips.
