Hello everybody, and thanks for this forum, which is superb.
I am considering a position in an International Organization based in DC, for a two year period, and I have a number of questions, some of which have already being answered by your contributions.
I understand that I should rent a house or flat, and my favourite areas are Foggy Bottom and Georgetown, so I assume that the cost of renting is going to be high. My question is that if it is customary to have one year leases, as most of the advertised leases seem to be for one year, or if there is any advantage in trying to look for a two year lease, which would be the ideal period for me.
Thanks for your help.
Most are one year and then they flip over to month-to-month. You might be able to find a 2 year one but I don't think you'll necessarily be saving much money going with a longer term.
The areas you want will have a high number of 'small' landlords--i.e. not the big apartment complexes that advertise but the guy who goes to craigslist or puts a sign in his window.
