Ever visited the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints Temple in the DC area? What are your thoughts of the grounds and the look of the Temple? I have seen only pictures and it looks amazing to me.

It is a sight to see at night on the Washington beltway. Christmas is the time to visit the grounds, very beautiful.

There's no doubt about the impressiveness of it at night. As you head west on the Beltway and start up a hill, the lighted spires seem to rise up out of the highway itself, then sit and hover high above it in the distance. There are no lights on the hillside beneath the temple, so in the dark, it makes for a rather dramatic effect...all well planned out by its designers of course...

LOL! I believe that was spraypainted on one of the nearby overpasses for a time.

Its certainly an impressive structure, but I can think of alot of European ones that I like better. Nonetheless, its appealing.

I visited the inside in 4th grade back in the 70s. I have heard that we Gentiles are no longer allowed in most of the inside, but I could be wrong on that.

I think I heard the same thing, but that there are no tours at all now.

Prior to the opening of a new temple public tours are given. However, once it has been dedicated, it is set aside for special purposes and tours are no longer available. (Tours will be given at the new Draper, UT temple between January 15 and March 14, 2009) They certainly are beautiful aren't they? The architecture usually is chosen based on the surrounding area. For example, the temple in Mexico is reminiscent of Mayan architecture.
