Really, it depends on the meter or the street sign. It can be different block by block (and sometimes it appears multiple signs on one post contradict each other). It's DC, so it's always a gamble.

Read the sign. If you're talking about Saturday evening, most meters go until 6:30pm on weekdays, and some on Saturdays, so you can park as long as you want after then.

I know for sure that on 7th Street NW in Chinatown/Gallery Place you can park for 2 hours on Saturday for free until 6:30, and then for as long as you want after that until Monday morning. Several places in Dupont are only M-F (I'm thinking around 17th Street NW and Rhode Island Ave).

Don't just read the sign, read the meter too. Sometimes the meter (which I think is official) contradicts the sign. On a street near where I live (which is not in DC mind you but Silver Spring, less than 1/4 mile from DC) the signs say metered parking is enforced Monday-Saturday but the meters themselves say Monday-Friday.

Depending on where you go in DC, you may be near a neighborhood that has zoned parking. The zoned parking areas usually allow a 2 hour maximum to non-residents on Monday-Friday from 7 AM to 8:30 PM, but don't have any requirements at other times.

Thanks for your response. So, what I seem to be getting at is that i can park (even in metered parking) as long as I want if it is out of time frame posted. This includes zoned parking as well. I will be trying to park near National Gallery of Art and that will be either saturday morning or sunday morning. I don't mind a bit of walking as well. I heard i can find easily parking on 4th st sw etc. which is a little bit of walking though. Any more suggestions nearby (NGA). Thanks.

4th Street SW is pretty easy (I live just off it, and I see parking there all the time). You can also try Maryland Avenue SW right by L'Enfant. You can also give Madison or Jefferson a try (the two streets bordering the Mall), as well as 1st Street NW. There are also some spots on 9th or 7th as you cross the Mall, so you can give that a shot too.

Thanks all. I was able to find parking on madison Dr. at about 10:45AM. All the parkings were gone within no time. I guess, the trick is to go early and grab one! Thanks. Madhu
