I have rec'd so much great advice on this site, thank you. We are moving to DC from NJ this summer (we have 2 kids 6 and 3). We have narrowed it down to the following area. I am interested in any impressions, generalizations, or stereotypes that you may have of these areas as a last bit of info... (Usually when you live in an area you have impressions of the town and the people that live in it- that many times hold true for the most part). Please be kind and PC.

Chevy Chase, DC, American University Park, Palisades, Kent, Wesley Heights.

Thank you!

Not familiar with Kent or Wesley Heights.
But the other areas you mentioned are very similar in demographics -- lots of lawyers (esp. government attorneys), academics, think tank researchers, artists (but only if they are married to or living with someone who has a real job), nonprofit employees, political types, media folks.
There will be lots of Democrats, breastfeeding moms, earnest recyclers, same-sex couples, vegetarians, au pairs and nannies, and people training for marathons.
Parked on the street and in driveways will be Volvos with fading "Kerry/Edwards" bumper stickers, child safety seats (but not more than two), and rear windows emblazoned with Ivy League and private high school decals. The cars will be a bit dusty, but defiantly so, because washing one's car is so...suburban.

one thing i will say. if u do DC be prepared to pay for private school. DC has the worst public school system in the country. in Chevy chase, MD the public schools are great although a step down from NJ.
