I am going to be stationed in Indian Head, MD, 30 miles south of DC. I would like advice on whether it is a good idea to consider actually living up in Washington. We get the money for rent (extra), I know the city very well. Not too familiar on Arlington and Alexandria. The commute to work shouldn't be a problem considering I'm driving out of DC, not into it..and pretty early in the morning as well (4am). I love Washington, and I would love to live there. I'm not married (not yet), not single though. Dont have kids (yet), got a car with good gas mileage..I would just like opinions if its better to go ahead and live somewhere close to DC but not in it. Like Ft. Washington, Forest Heights, or even about Arlington or Alexandria. Any help would be appreciated! Thanx!

stay in charles county very affordable compared to rest of dc area. very safe too. don't do arlington or alexandria (crossing the WW bridge.) Forest Heights itself isn't bad but is surronded by a lot of bad areas (oxon hill, se dc.) Fort Washington is a little expensive but a good place. so stay in Charles Co.
