With the presence of World Bank, IMF, Treasury and Tyson's Corner being home to Capital One, it certainly has a significant role in the financial world, but as stated above, a long way from dethroning NY.

There are rumors that BofA might be moving HQ out of Charlotte, most likely to NY, but if some local jurisdiction could convince them to move here, then it could really moving in that direction.

Yeah when I think banking centers I think NYC of course but also Charlotte and Jacksonville, even my hometown Columbus, GA has a large regional banking prescence, but DC doesn't come to mind. Charlotte is really hurting from the recession so for their sake hopefully Bank of America stays put.
