How about going out as far as Acme? What's the vibe out there?
The elementary school looks to be good with small class sizes.
Does the area turn very conservative into Deming and to Acme?

We are sort of torn between living in Bellingham somewhere with a fenced yard for the dog or living in an outer area with more land/beauty.

Hubby will be commuting into Bellingham though near WWU.

Conservative and not much there, Acme ES is fair. The Mt. Baker SD is OK. Not as good as Bham or Ferndale.

If you lean to the conservative, you might consider Ferndale. Much better schools and a shorter commute.

There are areas in the Bham SD where there are large yards. But that depends on what "large" means to you.

There is a large manufacturer based there, named after the town.

Sadly, a number of their products don't work as well as advertised.

ha...that is funny and thanks, Bill. We lean to the left, so are looking for enough of the Bellingham vibe but with a little land. Should we look in Deming?

Define a little land?

Bellingham schools are much better than the Mt. Baker SD. The 4 South Side elementary schools are all very good. There are rural areas covered by BSD, South towards Lake Padden there are homes with large lots. some with acreage. Also Lake Samish area there are some. It's a MUCH smoother commute although you have to be careful. There are some areas that don't get much sun. The problem with Demming is the Mt. Baker Hiway can get really congested from I5 to Barkley/Hannegan easily adding another ten minutes to your commute during busy times. The commute from South LK Samish is 12 minutes to WWU. A good 20 to 30 to Demming depending upon traffic.
