I am thinking of moving to the Sequim, Washington area. One of my main interests is hunting, especially birds. Can anyone tell me what type of hunting is in the Sequim area. Thanks.
....Wayne.

I wouldn't think there is much hunting around Sequim. More fishing than hunting I would imagine. I should think you would want to live in Eastern WA for hunting, say up in the Cascades. There are a lot of Parks on the Olympic with no hunting in them. I suppose people hunt in the Nat Forest there, but it's small compared to elsehere. The Nat. Park is much bigger.

I don't know about bird hunting but for Elk/Deer, one of the areas that is big for hunting is Lewis County through the western Yakima valley. That is a major hunting area (really wild and beautiful).

I'm not sure what the laws are for most of the peninsula area but a huge amount of land is owned by private logging companies (Green Diamond for one) and I do know people hunt and fish on it as long as it's not posted.

Default hunting in Sequim

Call Sunnydell Shooting Grounds: 360-683-5631 or see their website at Sunnydell Shooting Grounds and ask for Chuck Dryke or Matt Dryke.

Take lessons form Chuck Dryke or Matt Dryke and assuredly your game will run smooth.

There is no upland bird hunting is western Washington except on some release sites. There is some duck hunting.

If you want bird hunting it will have to be in eastern Washington. You can always drive there and join the several million neighbors from western Washington.

Upland bird hunting in eastern Washington is poor for pheasants, poor for chukar, and ok for quail and huns if you can find private ground. Varies by year, but the glory days are long gone.

You can walk all day for one shot at a rooster in eastern Washington nowadays. Limits were common in the 70's. Hunting started going down hill in the 80's. I could not believe that things would get much worse than they were in the 90's but they did. There is a release program for pheasants, but not sure that really qualifies as bird hunting.

You could live in Sequim and hunt the Dakota's for a month in October!!

You will have some duck hunting over there but for Pheasant chuckar quail you will have to go over to eastern Wa. But not knowing private property owners over there you can plan on not shooting at much!
