Moving to Bremerton in October, will be stationed there temporarily for about 6-8 months. I need advice on areas of town to find short term rental, preferably out of the hustle and bustle of town. I do not mind driving 30 mins to work. i would love no neighbors in a very very quiet area. i'm a single officer, no kids, no pets.

Recommendations? Anyone know of someone renting a place?

THanks

Budget would be helpful. I'm assuming house on land per your "no neighbors" wish (in other words, not an apartment or condo)? Near water, gyms, walkability, shopping desires?

I do NOT recommend driving/parking near the base, so take advantage of public transit options. Kitsap Transit has a Worker/Driver program for daytime shift and some van pooling options for other shifts, so please check out those options for commuting (and it's free to you): Worker/Driver Buses | Kitsap Transit

You don't have kids or a spouse, so I'd recommend starting in Port Orchard to the south and looking at the Kitsap Lake, East Bremerton, and Manette areas of Bremerton.

The no neighbors part will be difficult immediately around the base, but not impossible in outlying areas.

Once we know a little more about your desires, we can give you better answers.

Do you want water access, or forest?

Hobbies / interests?

I would strongly recommend getting a place with a NICE view (you will enjoy staying home and experiencing a restful view). (hint: you might be indoors a lot in winter, might as well enjoy it)

My dad was at Retsil (WA Vet Home) / Port Orchard for 15 yrs. There are some excellent places along the coast and toward Southwick Ferry. There is a frequent foot ferry across to Bremerton (as well as a bus).

Sometimes you can find an apartment in a upstairs garage or a guesthouse to rent.

Around $1000/month, preferably 2 bedroom. I'd prefer to live in the country. Not interested in public transit no matter how convenient, i'll be driving and have no desire to live within walking distance to anything.

Water view would be nice, but not required. Privacy and quietness is my biggest priority. I don't mind a long commute.

Hobbies include Amateur (Ham) Radio which is a reason i'd prefer no neighbors so I will have some space to put up an antenna. My main concern is finding a place that will rent short term, 6-8 months.

Short-term rentals aren't that unusual due to the military influence. However, your likes are not likely to happen on the Kitsap Peninsula with that budget. Not many places that are on acreage are available for rent, and those that are for rent are usually luxury homes.

However, there may be an opportunity further north on Marrowstone Island, but the commute will be closer to an hour:

Properties

(didn't see anything in the description regarding a one-year minimum lease)

You might try Shelton, but again, you are looking at more like an hour minimum commute.

get some exposure to 'networking-with-locals'.

Churches, civic groups, senior groups, master gardeners, travel, hiking, garden clubs... get the word out you are looking for a 'retreat' and you just may get taken up on an option, (Maybe house / pet / plant sitting for someone traveling.) I spent 8 months in Thailand last yr and had someone live in my 'view' home (for free). I have done this a lot in the last 40 yrs of home ownership. win:win.
