Hi,
We are planning to move to Bellingham with a family of 2 kids. We don't have any known ppl there. Could you please suggest us some safe place to stay and if you have any idea about Indian communities in Bellingham ?
The core reason is that we want to cross border to gain days for Canada PR. we really want to stay in a safe place and some indian communities if possible

I'm Indian and been here 3 years. Indians are the 2nd or 3rd largest minority after hispanics and almost all of them are Punjabi Indian. What is Canada PR? Ironically we moved here to be near family in Surrey but we haven't crossed the border in over a year. All areas are safe in my opinion. There aren't enough Indians to say any particular area has a concentration. They are spread throughout. In my opinion, Ferndale or Lynden is better for children in school.

Oh I see. Apart from the Sikh community I haven't known any other Indians here. Even they are much less spotted since the border closure. We have 1 store where half of it sells liquor and the back section has some Indian groceries, to give you an idea. I expect the population to grow over years, but for cultural activities it's limited.

Stay far away from Bellingham. jerzdevil was correct about moving as close to the border as you can.

fyi: Whatcom County's Executive is from north India. Satpal Singh Sidhu, BSc, SBEE, MBA, Fulbright Scholar, County Executive.

He's a typical knee-biting politician, but business friendly

I didn't mean that necessarily, but I also agree to avoid Bellingham. Most Indians, even ones who call themselves liberal, follow a more conservative lifestyle and Bellingham is one of the most liberal cities in the US. They don't want their child to question their sexual identity or that common gender roles are sexist. I've had one Indian aunty specifically name Lynden as a good district for children. And I live in Ferndale, seems to be a good place family oriented, which is why I name those 2 cities. Blaine is ok but more boring and the recreational parks aren't as nice as in Ferndale and Lynden.

Yeah, I have a more favorable impression of Satpal Sidhu after the Whatcom County love letter to Inslee. Shortly after we all moved to phase 2.
