You found your little slice of heaven. That's great! How do you feel about the limited hospital services in y our area? And were you both able to find a primary care doc to sign on with? Are you happy with that, so far?

I'm glad Mt. Vernon's wall did the job. Very clever piece of engineering, there. It's a nice area. I always enjoy my brief visits there.

The downtown flood wall is an amazing piece of engineering. Downtown was spared, but the area east of Mt. Vernon has flooded houses, roads and fields.

The body of a man whose truck was swept off Main St. in Everson early Monday morning was found floating in a field this afternoon by Whatcom County Sheriff's Office rescue team/volunteers. Very sad.

More news and pictures are coming out now that the water is receding. Everson, Nooksack, and Sumas were an area I used to frequent. One business reported 5-1/2' of water in their facility, despite it being elevated 2' higher than the road to prevent such a thing.

Hi Ruth,
Haven’t really figured out the hospital situation yet.
I only see the doctor for a yearly check up and that has always gone well.
I still have my primary doctor in Walnut Creek.
We have Kaiser and there is location in Olympia.
Our Kaiser coverage gives us emergency care anywhere and primary care at one of their locations.
We can easily switch policies if we want but I like my Doctor and I plan on bouncing back and forth between states for a while.
There are actually a bunch of health care options here as well.
I think with all the old people moving up here the care will get better.
If the Tribe sees any money in it it will be built .

Did the flood waters rise so fast that he didn't see it coming? He thought his truck could plow through it, but the waters just kept rising? That would be pretty unusual, wouldn't it?

That's what I've been thinking re: Pt. Townsend.

And the advantage to the tribe would be jobs, too. That could be helpful for some locals (or new arrivals), as well.

Thx for getting back to me.

It sounds like it was early in the morning and still dark, and after the river broke through the levee the water moved in very quickly. Fox 13 was up here shooting some news and I couldn't believe the speed of the water around the church behind them. The county ran out of road closed signs there was so many closures, and the fast moving rising water and winds also knocked them over so people couldn't see them and drove into the flood waters. There were homes flooded that weren't even in the 100 year flood zone and people simply didn't expect waters to come so high. Across the border in BC, they are calling this a 500 year event.
This was different than last years flood because we got so much rain for so long, every ditch creek and field turned into a roaring stream and/or lake. Swift Creek actually jumped it's channel and flooded a house, barn, and church, and cut a new path out through the farmland(and spreading asbestos all over in the process ).

Here's a video of rescue via a large tractor in Sumas. Unbelievable amount of flood waters!

Thank you. The bolded explains a lot. Sounds horrific.
