This sounds more like a plot to farm returns on tickets than a true safety precaution. If someone is on a street that doesn't front, say, a school, how the hell are they supposed to know they are within 1000 feet of it?

I love this state. But between this and the 'tax by the mile' privacy invasion scheme, I'd tip its leadership into the crater of the next volcano that decides to awaken.

Take a breath, not everything is about politics. Kids have been hit and killed near schools, would this really be so bad?

If you read the attachments this is just on certain right turns, unlike NYC where right turns are banned at most intersections. As I understand it, signs must be posted to warn of the no right turn.

In CA news it's now legal to jaywalk so it's not about "safety". Expect to see the same there.

The CA law is somewhat ambiguous in my mind. It says you can jaywalk if traffic permits. Not sure what that exactly means. But CA has confused me for over 60 years!

It is because so many streets don't have proper crosswalks and too long of stretches between intersections.

Yes that makes sense. California has a different grid than most of the US.

Also the cops were using the law to harass Black people more than White people and were using it most prevalently in Black neighborhoods just because they could. That can be the problem with some of these sorts of very discretionary laws. They can be inequitably enforced.

I think is lazy people to lazy to walk to an intersection. I can think of too many more irritating things than someone walking of my car and expecting me to wait for them and to boot it off if a honk my horn they react as if I committed a crime.

So much as 'no one is above the law'.
