My wife and I have plans to move to northeastern part of Puget Sound in the next year or so. We are looking for a place where she can garden and I can sail and kayak. Places we are considering are Bellingham or Port Townsend areas or places in between. We would like a moderately price house with a large yard for a garden. Needless to say, we would also like a good farmers market nearby. Suggestions?

The "Sunset Western Garden Book" has a climate zone map for Western Washington. Bellingham is in zone 4 and Port Townsend is in zone 5. The difference is zone 4 has colder winters, a shorter growing season and more rainfall.

Around here the thrift stores and used book stores have recent editions of this book.

Mt Vernon, LaConner, or areas in Skagit Valley. skagitvalley.com - IN, Official Website of the Skagit Valley Tourism Group, The 27th Annual Skagit Valley Tulip Festival

Port Townsend can be a hassle if you need to commute for any reason (health / work / entertainment / supplies), but if you are self sufficient you might want to look into the eco village there

Stay out of Sudden Valley, too many deer, gardens not allowed, too cold to grow tomatoes...
