I thought weather watchers would be interested to see that Atlantic Ocean sea surface temperatures (SST) are really heating up…especially in the middle Atlantic region (Virginia to NYC). Although I have seen 26.5 C (80 F) sst around far southern New Jersey in very late summer (last week of August)…I have NEVER seen 80 SST around NYC – let alone in July! Most of the beaches in the middle Atlantic (Virginia Beach, VA, Ocean City, MD, Cape May, NJ, Long Island, NY…etc are reporting sst of 78 /79 F. There are now patches of 84.5 F (29 C) sea temps off North Carolina.

Right now the Atlantic Ocean around NYC (26 C) is slightly WARMER than the Pacific around the Hawaii Island (25 C) –lol. I hope everyone on the East Coast is starting to pray for wind shear as the tropical cyclone season gets going.

I wish I was going to the Jersey Shore this summer. Usually the water is freezing!

That's just scary... It would not be great if all that warm water allowed a Category 5 hurricane to make it all the way up to the NYC area

I know, I went to the beach like 2 weeks ago, never in my life have I ever felt water that warm, normally I have to get used to the water (feet, then knees, then I continue to work my way up) before I go in. It was just warm and we just got in. I've never done that at any beach.
