A case of an extemely moderate climate versus a rather extreme one in terms of seasons and diurnal variation, yet, the two are only about 150 kilometers apart, and in the same state!
Eureka. I don't like the summer maximum temps at all, but it is a lot less extreme Than Yreka.
Does any place at this latitude have such a small seasonal temperature range? It is similar to here, with a bigger diurnal range than seasonal range, something that isn't common at these latitudes.
Eureka's climate is very similar to Scilly Isles, UK.. summers are a lot cooler and winter lows are lower.. yet I do not think you can support palm trees this large in Scilly Isles..!?

Yreka California has more different weather from Redding than I initially thought. It is much more drier than Redding annually and also has much colder average highs/lows and record lows.
I pick Eureka over Yreka. However, if this was Redding vs. Eureka, I would pick Redding.
Despite the cold summers, Eureka still has a decent climate in my opinion for the extremely long time periods of mildness, the annual precipitation, and annual sunshine. It also seems to get a decent amount of breezy/windy, and foggy days.
The person that decided on the names for the towns of Eureka and Yreka did not really make a good decision naming those two places with such similar names when they are in such close geographic distance to each other.

The Azores are very similar to northern New Zealand, and actually, are farther away from the equator:
Wikipedia is wrong about it being the unequivocally warmest NZ city. Albert Park, Auckland is 0.4C-0.5C warmer, as is Mechanics Bay in central Auckland.
