Curious what other people think of the climate here: Valdez, Alaska

I give it a B. The summer temps are great, and winters are just cold enough for abundant snow without being generally uncomfortable, but it's often overcast, and late summer/fall can be very overcast and drizzly. On the plus side though, the rain and snowmelt contribute to scores of waterfalls and very lush vegetation.

Forgot to add a poll, so just post your grade.

Summers aren't very warm...

But my biggest complaint are the clouds obscuring beautiful mountains. It's too cloudy year round.

A B+ from me, with me narrowly rejecting an A grade. Summers are nearly perfect, and winters are too warm for my taste, but not extremely so. The very high snowfall almost makes up for the too-warm winters, but it would change over to rain or warm up too often for my taste, hence the narrow rejection of A status. The all-time record low is acceptable, but Valdez isn't as prone to bitter cold snaps for my taste. Winter record highs are good, and Summer record highs are great. There isn't too much sunshine, either. There's also higher than ideal precipitation, but it's something I could handle. The maritime influence is also a drag, especially in Winter, as the weather would be too stable for me, and the extra seasonal lag I don't exactly care for (although I could mind it at these levels).

In the end, it has many positive aspects, including very high snowfall and nearly perfect summers. The maritime influence and warmer than ideal winters give it lower marks. A pretty good climate overall.

Foul climate, F.

The very high rainfall is what pushes it over the edge from merely very bad to outright horrendous.

I could tolerate these winters if it had warm, sunny summers; but even summers are cold and rainy!

How come it's so mild by the way? Say, compared to Anchorage.

F.

First off, summers are not hot at all. 62 degrees F as an average high for the hottest month does not cut it for me.

Secondly, 326 inches of snow is just way too much. I thought Syracuse (128 inches) was a lot but this is just ridiculous.

Also, the average annual precipitation of 67 inches is depressing. The fact that this place gets such little sunshine is also a turn-off.

Some people might like this climate, but I really would not want to live here.
