Which beach climate would you prefer for year round living if you could live in your dream mansion right on the coast with your dream job nearby? They are both at the same latitude on opposite coasts of the U.S. but the climates are very different.

A) Laguna Beach in Southern California

B) Myrtle Beach in South Carolina (I changed my initial decision from Charleston to Myrtle Beach which is why there is a discrepancy between the thread title and the thread/poll itself).

Laguna Beach is beautiful.

The other is good for East Coast US, but can't hold a candle to LB.

I visit Laguna Beach regularly so I'm biased. We get our heat waves where it's really enjoyable. Myrtle Beach is not a bad climate either. I do wish we got a few of their summer showers and sometimes balmy nights are enjoyable as well. But I also appreciate the fact that here, we can open the windows to cool off most nights while they need to run their AC 24/7 4 months a year.

Both are too cool for the water in winter but it's still mild enough for a walk along the shore!

SoCal is nice with the occasional heatwaves but the overall mild climate. I do prefer more rainy summers but it's okay so I prefer SoCal.

Laguna Beach for sure due to warmer winters and drier summers which can still get heatwaves from time to time.

Been to both, but only during the summer. Based on that, I choose Myrtle Beach because you can sit in the water all day long in the summer. I was there in late June this past summer and the SST was 85-86F (29/30C) with air temps between 86-90F (30-32C) every day. It rain one day for a couple of hours. Good tropical-like downpour. Night temps were in the 70's (21C+).

Hands down Laguna Beach. Beaches of Charleston (Sullivan's Island and Isle of Palms) are way better than Myrtle Beach. The only thing that's better than LB is the ocean is warm unlike CA. I left San Diego last year and miss CA so much. Guess i'm a CA girl at heart.

I'm going with Myrtle Beach, even though its winters are cooler. The reason I chose it was for warmer SSTs, warmer nighttime temperatures, and the summers are more conducive for going to the beach (humid 90F days). Laguna has a nice climate but oftentimes it's too foggy and not quite warm enough to justify swimming in the cooler water.

Too fogy??? this isnt San Francisco were talking about here, the fog it gets is seen only in June and clears right before 10 AM most days. also highs in the low 80s are good swimming temps.
