Thinking about the Brookings vs Windsor thread has made me think about preferences over moderate maritime climates vs extreme continental climates. I've been thinking what if there was some sort of a way or poll to grade this. After doing some work I've came up with 8 climates which have an equal amount of precipitation and the same high and low but have varying amount of seasons from one extreme to the other.
All of these climates have an average high of 12.0(53.6) and average low of 4.0(39.2) They all have the same precipitation spread mostly evenly throughout the year. Otherwise they are unlike temperature rise.
For myself I chose climate 4. It has decent summers thought too much cold and snow in the winter.
Interestingly all of these climates have the same annual average temperature as Buxton, Derbyshire (where I live) and Buxton's climate is halfway in between Choice 6 and Choice 7. Both of which have lame summers.
I think I would choose Choice 4 - enough of a summer, without having winters that are too cold.
Either 3 or 4. Probably 4 for the cooler overnight lows in the summer. Although WAY too much rain in all of them and they are probably all humid too. Ick.

Unfortantly where I live this is the amount of precitation my city gets. As a matter of a fact that's where I got the precipitation totals from which is Moncton New Brunswick. Thought I don't really mind it except for the winter when the snow falls, then I really do mind.
I actually wanted to have a higher diurnal range in the continental climates as oppose to the maritime climates but I also wanted them to all have the same average low.

6 for me. Winter is still a lot colder than I like, but I wouldn't want the summer any cooler. Rainfall is only a bit less than here, I wouldn't call it a wet climate.
Rather cold average temps to work with. I think it would tend to favour the continental options. Using 8-16C would tend to favour the maritime climate(imo).
Choice 4. I prefer the summers of choice 3, but its winters are too cold. Choice 4 has a near perfect seasonality to me.
