Monsoon season could bring rains to the coast of CA. It's rare, but happens. In fact, it happened last summer here in San Diego.

My bad about the NO RAIN ever in July- I based that poll on something I remember hearing a while back. Since then, I did some research and light rain has fallen a few times in July but the all time record for July is only 0.24 inches in the past 130 years. It has only rained more than 0.10 inches only THREE TIMES IN the past 130 years.
Los Angeles Rainfall - 130 Years

Monsoonal moisture has affected Los Angeles more often in late August or September so there are more instances of rain in later summer (but it's still rare). Only 12 Augusts and 33 Septembers have recorded more than 0.10 inches of rain.

Los Angeles downtown hasn't seen 32 degrees since 1979- Week Starts With Record Low Temperature for Downtown LA | NBC Southern California

For the sake of my poll, let's say that 32 refers to downtown bringing the suburbs down into the mid to upper 20s.
Let's also specify that the rain in July is from remains of a tropical storm in the Eastern Pacific and brings 0.50 inches of rain (more than doubling the previous record for July) along with THUNDERSTORMS.

As for the earthquake, we get quakes in the 5.5-6 range once every 5-10 years so it's far more frequent than July rain or freezing temperatures......I'm sorry if I scare any East Coast people that are supposed to move to California soon on this forum...

As for the no rain over a year, it's the only one that has NEVER happened yet but my guess is that it's still possible but unlikely.

My FB friends in the LA area have made some posts about the last two days of rain (moderate rain in L.A. is somewhat rare in May as almost half of all Mays in L.A were COMPLETELY rainless)...it's newsworthy 4 sure that they got an almost an inch in two days...

I may be wrong, but last year, the monsoon brought thunderstorms to southern California, I believe in July. But maybe it was August. I can't remember, but I loved the tropical downpour, which is so rare in summer in California!

Any links to any stories about this event as I'm sure it would have made the news...was it just localized to a small area or widespread? I remember maybe 3 or 4 warm thunderstorms in my life (one in August and the rest in September) but I don't recall it ever raining in July here in San Jose. last September we had some dry lightning with no rain......was still fun to watch..

It was down here where I live in Oceanside. Perhaps it didn't reach LA.

A) Los Angeles gets a 5.8 earthquake.

B) Los Angeles gets a light rain shower in July (it has NEVER rained in July in Los Angeles).

C) Los Angeles wakes up to an overnight low of 32 degrees- no snow- under clear skies.

D) Los Angeles goes A FULL YEAR (365 days) without seeing a single drop of rain- ZERO- not even drizzle.

Looks like B) is actually happening right now- I'm sure it will be the opening news story for all the Southern California evening news.

Totally D. 5.8 Earthquake? pfff whatever, next! Rain in July...weird, but it has happened before, next! 32 degree low, also very strange, but is has happened before...next! No rain AT ALL for one year, now that would have everyone talking about the drought, blah blah blah. So yeah, D.
