Bit of excitement here on the south coast this morning, we had a thunderstorm with some torrential rain & on Hayling Island (next to Portsmouth) there was a small tornado! My sister lives on Hayling & it just missed her house with houses in the road next to hers being damaged. There are reports that there was another tornado in Gosport too...
The weather is a bit calmer now & we had had some sunny spells since...
Coastal areas are good for thunderstorms and tornadoes in the fall in the UK. I think our storm season up here is over until next July (and will end in August).
Yeah we do get quite a few tornados locally, especially at this time of the year. The strongest tornado ever recorded in the UK happened in Portsmouth, a T8 in 1810...
17C, humid and overcast at 14:17. We just had a brief thunderstorm which was nice. We also had one at midnight last night.
We've actually had a decent year for thunderstorms.
You can tell we don't really get them often when the British posters come on here to advertise every time there's a flash and a rumble.
The Americans probably read it and think "yadda yadda a thunderstorm whoopee" while rolling their eyes.
We've had 2 in the last 12 hours that were overhead. Certainly more than a flash and a rumble.
