Jan. 21, 2014 — Extreme air pollution in Asia is affecting the world's weather and climate patterns, according to a study by Texas A&M University and NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory researchers.

I think your view may be a particularly American perspective on air pollution due to industry. I don't think most people would first think of the US, in relation to this issue.
The fact that pollution can affect precipitation is known, as aerosols serve as cloud condensation nuclei. The title seems a bit sensationalistic. I'm sure pollution in Asia can have ripple effects throughout the world in terms of weather because of the interconnectedness of global atmospheric circulation, but to demonstrate just how this affects other locations seems like a difficult task.
