First day that actually feels like summer since the strong polar front decimated the heatwave way back last Friday. Forecast max 33C, although we had another subarctic night with a disgusting 13C low

FINALLY got a thunderstorm here on Wednesday, for the first time in two months. More storm action yesterday as well, with a rainfall total of over 30mm. Thank god, because if I had to endure another week of that ridiculously dry weather then I would probably need to be admitted to a mental hospital.

I nearly had a heart attack this morning though when I saw that the stupid BOM had failed to record the 24.4mm that fell yesterday into the daily weather observations table. See all the gaps on this page? Dalby, Qld - Daily Weather Observations There is absolutely no reason why they should be there, as the weather station was not malfunctioning during these times. This also occurred several times last year, meaning more than 30mm of rainfall data was lost. I've also seen similar things happen to other weather stations as well, such as Moree and Toowoomba yesterday.

Maybe it wouldn't annoy me so much if the BOM would stop using months with these dodgy data in the calculation of averages and records. Because of missing data in December 2013, the record low December total is now 8.2mm when it should have been higher.

I've also noticed that the Brisbane City station has been malfunctioning recently. Yesterday there were some very heavy falls in the Brisbane area which caused flash flooding, with all weather stations in the area recording very large totals in the 75-125mm range, except for Brisbane city station which somehow only recorded 18.6mm.

Horribly cold last night with a 5 C low (7 C below average). I ended up putting the heater on and thus woke up to a heavenly 28 C. I needed no persuasion to get out of bed. It was like I lived somewhere that actually has a summer!

The day was very sunny, but also cool with a high of 19 C and a constant 30+ kph easterly.

It's been a very cold month for most of the country with large regions of the South Island having mean temps more than 2 C below the norm.

We're now coming into what's usually the warmest period of the year, but it looks like more of the same crap -- 16-20 C highs and predominantly cloudy / rainy.

Really? I think maybe 7 or 8C is the lowest we would get here on the coldest of summer nights, although I'm sure 5C has happened before.

We had a low of 2.6C in August 2012 and 3.9C in August 2010. Yeovilton (the weather station anyway) is a frost hollow - I would expect it to get colder than that.

Portland, Vic, had an 1.6C low in January 2009. I was there to experience it. This is a sea level maritime station by the way.
