Here in the Northeast I like to keep track of the weather on Christmas Day. 8 out of 10 times it is cloudy. Many times there is no specific storm or low pressure system mentioned, but instead it's just cloudy. A dark grey low overcast.
Anecdotally I'd say about 70% of Christmas Days in Perth are practically clear 20% have at least 2 oktas cloud at some point in the day and 10% are mostly cloudy and/or some rain.
For some reason, in the 2000s we seemed to have had an abnormally high proportion of sunny Christmas Days (considering that we average just over 1 hour of sunshine per day in December), but I didn't actually keep records nor would I be able to find them. I wasn't here for Christmas 2012, but Christmas 2011 was cloudy, wet and exceptionally mild. In 2010, I think that there was some freezing rain but also some sunshine.
No data for cloudiness further back at Trondheim-Voll, only temperature and wind.
But using Trondheim Airport Værnes I can get data for one more year.
