It's like Portland with lower rainfall and less temperature variation.

Though, it's quite transitional.

There is nothing transitional about it's rainfall pattern -it's very clearly a Mediterannean climate.

It's Mediterranean; the driest summer month has less than a third of the wettest winter month rainfall, as well as being below 30mm itself.

Humid subtropical or better yet, a tropical rainforest or tropical monsoon climate

It is mediterranean, but in terms of rainfall it is not far removed from oceanic climate. The dry season only lasts two months and there is some rainfall in those months. Would it be considered subtropical?

The same can be said of many Med climates- it's not an Oceanic climate, because Oceanic climates don't experience fundamental shifts in weather patterns.

It is subtropical under Trewartha's system, but not Koppen's.

Would you say Seattle and Vancouver have Mediterranean climates?

Yes, definitely.

The change in weather patterns, is fundamentally different to a true Oceanic climate like Motueka.
