So I invented a new climate classification system. What do you think about it?

First letter* based on warm season mean ( hottest month x 0.5 + yearly mean x 0.5 )

A - Polar: < 0 C

B - Semi-polar: 0 C - 5 C

C - Subpolar: 5 C - 10 C

D - Cool temperate: 10 C - 15 C

E - Warm temperate: 15 C - 20 C

F - Subtropical: 20 C - 25 C

G - Semi-tropical: 25 C - 30 C

H - Tropical: At least 30 C

Second letter: (Only for type A):

a - Tundra: Hottest month at least 0 C

b - Ice cap: Hottest month < 0 C

Second letter (Only for types B to H):

a - Extremely arid: Precipitation mm = warm season mean C x 0-1

b - Very arid: precipitation mm = warm season mean C x 1-3

c - Arid: precipitation mm = warm season mean C x 3-9

d - Semi-arid: precipitation mm = warm season mean x 9-27

e - Wet: precipitation mm = warm season mean C x 27-81

f - Very wet: precipitation mm = warm season mean C x 81-243

g - Extremely wet: precipitation mm = warm season mean C x at least 243

Third letter (Only for types B to H):

a - Extremely dry summer: >1/6 of total precipitation falls during the 6 hottest months

b - Very dry summer: 1/6-2/6 of total precipitation falls during the 6 hottest months

c - Dry summer: 2/6-3/6 of total precipitation falls during the 6 hottest months

d - Wet summer: 3/6-4/6 of total precipitation falls during the 6 hottest months

e - Very wet summer: 4/6-5/6 of total precipitation falls during the 6 hottest months

f - Extremely wet summer: At least 5/6 of total precipitation falls during the 6 hottest months

*Small latter if the hottest month is less than 22 - ( ( -3 - coldest month C ) / 3 * 2) C. (Only for types B to H)

Melbourne falls comfortably in D ... cool temperate. Only 1 above subpolar.

And you buggers thought I was talking **** when I say Melbourne is subarctic....

Rest of Australia is F and up.

NYC would be Eed (Warm temperate / Wet / Wet summer), falling short of Fed by only a fraction of a degree.

From 1961 to 1990 Zagreb is Eed (Warm temperate / Wet / Wet summer), with the warm season mean of 15.75c, precipitation 54.35 times the mean and 57.68% of precipitation falling during the warm season.

From 2000 to 2013, Zagreb is still Eed (Warm temperate / Wet / Wet summer), with the warm season mean of 17.10c, precipitation 46.59 times the mean and 56.7% of precipitation falling during the warm season.

Are you using average highs or 24-hour mean for the calculation of warm season mean?

Assuming you're using 24-hour mean,

Singapore would only be semi-tropical,
same for Bangkok.

You need to use 1981-2010 data or the latest 30 year period. You don't cherry pick the last 13 years cause their warmer.

Dec for here.

Still a system with a warm season bias, so of only very limited value: eg - is my climate is a dry summer version of somewhere in Finland? I don't think this system would be of much use in the real world

I'm going to have to fail this one. As a general rule, I think a system should be able to give a rough indication of an area's climate at any time of the year.
