Complete opposite here...had a pathetic July, but this morning it feels exactly like Florida did

Our average max in Chicago so far is STILL about 0.5F below average.... That will change, but I don't think the average high will end up significantly above average. The Mean is exactly average as of the 23rd.

^^

If this forecast is accurate, then ORD will end up with an average high of 82.0F and MDW with an average high of 82.5F which is almost exactly normal. ORD's 30 year average is 81.9F and MDW's is 82.5F....

I just checked London's average max this month so far

That's about 1C below average... Our July was nearly 3C below average

Plus you had 2 months this summer with significantly above average temps. I had June that was 1C above average

So close, yet so far. The coolness has reached NC, but not ATL .

Yeah, that's where my hometown is, and it's aggravating to see them getting that nice cool breeze while we're still in the soup. This upcoming week looks considerably better than last week, though - whew.

Got close to an inch of rain here at the house last evening, but none (0.00) at the local airport - just five miles away. We actually had the sun shining through heavy rain, that's how close the storm's edge was. With that big shot of rain and that super-hot air around us, it was a steambath last night - all my windows misted over, even though they're double-glazed. Nasty! The dewpoint at PDK currently says 70, I daresay it's at least five degrees higher here at the house.

Our June and July was above average, June by about 1C, and July by just over 2C, but it was consistently above average slightly.. no major heat at all, in fact the highest temperature at Heathrow was only 30.3C, lower than a typical July, but following this year's trend of above average without anything noticeable.

Now this August on the otherhand.. the start was good enough, which kept the average higher than it would be..

Last day that reached average temperatures was 9th August, over 2 weeks ago. Since then, most days have been consistently 2C-5C below average. We have even had freezing nights, 7.6C a few days ago, and again last night.. almost unheard of in my lifetime for July or August.. the temperatures of the last 2 weeks have been more like mid September than mid August

Almost unheard of?

August 2012: 5.9C
August 2012: 8.7C
August 2010: 8.4C
August 2009: 9.2C

I've only checked August in London, but going back 5 or 6 years I've seen cold nights every year almost. I'm sure if I checked July too, and went back 20 years, there'd be plenty of those nights.

ugh it's the end of summer and we get this kind of weather, it was almost 100 yesterday and will be close again with no real cool down in sight unless you call low 90s a "cool down". This might be one of those years where September is warmer than July.
