I think even the most inhospitable places have some positive aspects to them. Yakutsk in Siberia, for example, has short but pleasant summers and frigid but clear, sunny winters.

So NYC hardly has the best climate but it isn't the worst either. Extreme temperatures, below 0F or above 100F, are very rare. Still, there is enough variety that you can experience all seasons - snow in the winter, plenty of beach days in the summer. There are no dry or rainy seasons - you can count on at least some sun and some rain in any given month (usually a fair mix of both). Natural disasters like tornadoes, floods, droughts, or hurricanes are rare. (Hurricanes occasionally reach NYC area but almost always they are much weakened by the time they reach this far north.) In short, the weather here is changeable but without the extremes that some people places get. Fairly balanced overall.

Positives for the Greater Toronto Area:

-"Natural Disasters" of all kinds are exceedingly-rare... and typically of low intesity
-our summers are usually more consistantly warmer, or with milder (higher) overnight lows than most parts of Canada

The only thing I like about NYC's climate is the hot Summers but as we all know that has yet to happen with Summer 2009. Our low temperatures tend to be in the 70's which is higher than a lot of the East Coast, but I like the highs in the 80's and 90's and the occasional 100's with high heat indexes. I like the strong thunderstorms too.

I love springtime and summertime. Early autumn is actually beautiful here. It's just not my fave season cause I know what comes afterward.

Default No Sweat!

I hate sweating, wiping my face all the time, or re-cleaning my glasses.

I like it dry, dry, dry! Yes, you have to drink a lot of water, make sure you don't dehydrate, but it's a small price to pay not to sweat all the time.

And I have a good basis for comparison as I once spent a summer on an island off the west coast of Florida. And summers in Minnesota.

I also hate mosquito's, gnats and woodticks. Here, it's too dry for them.
Haven't been bitten by a mosquito in 17 years since I left Minnesota.

What I don't like about the desert is the cold winters and the winds that bring in dust from the desert.

But what other choices are there?

I was in Vegas during a wind storm, it was awful, sand blowing around, talk about stinging, the pitts!

I like where I live for the variety, the fact it isn't constant, the lake makes it awesome, today it is so windy, you can hear the waves, exciting!

I will admit I've never liked perpetual weather, I'd hate endless days of warm and sunshine, too much of any one type of weather is totally boring!!!

I love the weather where I live, there are definite seasons, all of them flowing in and out like they should. We get plenty of rain in the summer, love those thunder storms!! It is never brown!! Winters have not been too severe.

I guess the very worse is ice storms. Talk to me in January!!

The slight chance it might reach 45ºC like it did 3 times last summer.

Some nights are surprisingly hot, like 35C/95F at 1am, as seen New Years eve 2006.

Otherwise my climate positively sucks.

I guess I like the fact that winter actually exists here, even if it's not long enough. Summer pretty much ruins the whole living experience, unfortunately. Also, Spring is hot and humid and Fall doesn't really arrive until November, and by then all the leaves have turned brown and fallen off the trees. I can't remember how long it's been since we had a nice, colorful Autumn.
