As for the above/below average discussion, here the mean deviation from daily avg highs ranges from the lowest value of 1.9 C on October 1 to 5.1 C on January 6 (highest).
Throughout the year, the deviation is 3.5 C from the daily average temperatures, so actually it is more common to hit a temp over three degrees above/below average than not.
Generally we get more times warmer deviations than colder ones but the colder deviations are stronger, both in winter and summer.
Interesting.
For the month of January, Hartford (about 30 miles south of me) had a mean deviation in lows of 5.1°C. Highs less, only 4.4°C (so less than you). For July, average deviation in the highs is 2.9°C, in the lows 2.7°C. There's isn't skew between warmer or colder deviations. I would have expected the daily variability in January to be much higher for me than you.
After a whole day working without air condition on a day like today, it sure feels nice to walk into the house and immediately feel how refreshing that air conditioning is.
oh and btw the map is wrong, it makes it look like Estonia/Latvia is really far north when its actually at a similar latitude to me.
I am not in NW Europe, London is W Europe. The southernmost point of Estonia is at almost 57.7N, so it's nowhere near your latitude.
