Changes in average global temperature, precipitation, etc. only matter if they happen where you are. A person in NYC doesn't adjust to average global temperature.

No more (or less) alarmist than the "global warming" hype of the past decade: the point, at least as ths writer sees it, is to study the trends carefully, but to be wary of those calling for an immediate (and expensive) answer, particularly when it is linked to an agenda which expands bureaucratic power,

It was actually 1816 to 1817, Tambora had erupted and sent global temperatures plummetting for three years, it was also behind the Irish potato famine. Tambora erupted in 1815 and was much larger than Krakatoa in 1884. Those years from 1815 to 1818 when normal temperatures resumed stimulated the story of Frankenstein.

No, actually they matter because they affect the supply of food, water, etc. and thus the price you pay. (I am not a climate alarmist.)

Nonsense - it's fanciful twaddle against sound science. Amazing that such tripe can still be posted in deadly seriousness.

Well yes it is really, there has been plenty of evidence of warming backed up by countless scientists & to me there is a far bigger agenda of those wanting to discredit climate change. This sounds like pure science fiction...

People will believe what they want to believe, but at the end of the day you cannot deny that climate change (note "climate change" & not "global warming" as it isn't as simple as that) is real & is happening, you only have to look at the extreme weather events around the world which are increasing with each year to see this.

The world climate is immensely complex with an incredible number of variables, it's hard to predict things with certainty. It's entirely possible for some part of the world to go into a prolonged cold spell, even while on average over time the global temp is increasing. For example, Europe could experience another Little Ice Age as the Arctic ice melts and dilutes the salt content of the Atlantic Ocean, which would shift the Gulf Stream that heats up Britain and Europe.
Do you reckon the UK could get cold winters and hot summers like the east coast of the US if this trend happens?

Well, that's what happens now, right? I'd say to look to the Mini Ice Age to get a sense of what might happen.

CO2 up but not global temps. Hmmm.
Actually, it's 17 years, 9 months (as of July 2014). It's extremely premature to assert that we are heading for an ice age. I agree with you that the Chicken Little alarmists pumping up the idea that we are destroying the earth with warming are out to lunch, but the idea of a coming ice age is just as speculative.

NOAA:

July was the globaly the 4th warmest on record.
The oceans had their warmest July, tying July 2009.

"Overall, the combined average temperature over global land and ocean surfaces for July 2014 was 1.15 degrees above the 20th-century average of 60.4 degrees, the climate center reported.Eight of the 10 warmest Julys have occurred within the past 10 years (2002 also ranks among the 10 warmest). "This is what to expect with continued global warming," noted University of Arizona climate scientist Jonathan Overpeck on Twitter.
This follows on the heels of the hottest May and hottest June on record globally.
Additionally, July 2014 marked the 38th consecutive July — and 353rd consecutive month — with a global temperature that was above average."
July was Earth's 4th-hottest month on record
