What are the records for most precipitation on a single day in your location?
For Alexandria, LA the top 5 days with most precip since 1892:
11/16/1987 10.02 in (254.51 mm)
7/25/1933 9.75 in (247.65 mm)
4/29/1953 8.55 in (217.17 mm)
10/23/1972 8.12 in (206.25 mm)
7/23/1969 7.93 in (201.42 mm)
The wettest single month was July 1933 with 22.58 in (573.53 mm)
It's very hard to get data like that here the way the American weather agencies present it. The biggest two daily rainfalls here that I am aware of both happened in June 2007: 71 mm / 2.8" on the 15th and then 63 mm / 2.5" on the 25th. I don't know which was the wettest month on record but mid-June to mid-July that year was extreme:
Haven't got any records at hand, but this region can get some decent downpours. 109 mm/4.5 inches in an hour (estimated to be 45 minutes) in March 2013, and 392 mm/16 inches (24 hours) in December 2011 - 674 mm/27 inches over 48 hours for the same station.
The largest rain event here was on the 8th August 2002, 70.5 mm (2.78 inches) fell that day and of those 70.5 mm, 62.4 mm (2.45 inches) fell within just one hour. That month was also unusually wet with 240 mm of rain in the whole month (that's more than three times of the longterm average).
Here is the hourly rain data for that day from our official weather station of the DWD
For the Chicago metro area the greatest rain event was 17inches/432mm in 24 hours
Quote:
The area's biggest rain occurred July 17-18, 1996 when training thunderstorms brought incredible rainfall totals along a corridor from north of Rockford to to Park Forest. Parts of Aurora received nearly 17" of rain in less than 24 hours, an Illinois record, in a flood that produced damage in excess of a half billion dollars.
For my city (La Plata) the record precipitation event was the tragic flood on last year's april 2nd.
392mm/15.4inches in 24 hours and 307mm in just 4 hours (!!)
17.0 in / 432mm
15.4 in / 391mm
13.5 in / 343mm
10.0 in / 255mm
7.6 in / 192mm
