Are there cities and places that have long harsh winters (-40C- a regular occurrence) and long warm to hot summers (40C+ a regular occurrence), but with short lived spring and Autumn seasons? I'm talking about a climate that looks something like this:
So if there is a place, where is it?
I'm thinking it may be somewhere continental?
The greatest difference between the hottest month and the coldest month in North America is 80 degrees F (44.4C) in Fort Good Hope, Northwest Territories. You might say that this place is not hot, BUT it can get over 35 degreeC/95F. Actually, outside of BC, the NWT was the hottest place in Canada this year. Hotter than Ontario. Hotter than Saskatchewan. Hotter than Quebec.
Runners up:
RAE LAKES, NWT = 79.1F/43.9C
SHEPHERD BAY, NU = 79.0/43.9C
OLD CROW, YT = 78.9F/43.8C
Are we talking about the fastest change from March to April? If so, the quest change is at CIRCLE HOT SPRINGS, AK (24.6F).
Obviously summers are short up there, so you'd have to define what you mean by "long hot summers."

I don't find that to have a long summer but I guess it's relative. Just 2 months with highs near 90. Only one month has a high near 70. The other warm month is cooler.
To me, such a climate sounds awful! Long winters then you go straight to relentless heat? Yuck.

I consider any max temp with an av of on or above 70 to be summer. But then I come from Britain where Summers are cool!
And yea, I agree, I prefer warm winters and hot summers like in Brisbane or Cairns. But I'm just interested if there are any places with similar climate - it looks as though there are a few!
