Does anyone know how one can find this data ? I would like to know the years when NJ had maximum number of days with consistent snowpack. Note that this might differ from the years with maximum snowfall.
In my experience, 2010 was the year when I saw maximum number of days with consistent snowpack.
On this page, choose your desired NWS station and then click on "monthly summarized data."
For the "year range," choose "por-2015."
For variable, choose "snow depth."
For "summary," choose "number of days."
For threshold, choose "greater than or equal to" and type your desired number (for example, 12). The default unit is inches.
This will give you a monthly table of how many days the snowpack was greater than or equal to your chosen threshold, during each month of record keeping.
It looks like 2010-2011 is the winner here, though Islip records have only been kept since 1984.
2013-2014: Dec 15-22 then Snow on ground from Feb 4 to Mar 18
2012-2013: Dec 28 to Jan 20, then Feb 9 to Feb 27, and a half week mid March 2011-2012: A week in January and another week in early March [and one day in October, had the highest depth of the season] 2010-2011: A few days in December, then Jan 8 to Mar 11 2009-2010: Dec 9 to Dec 18, Jan 1 to Jan 11, off and on from Jan to late Feb with more days without snow than with snow 2008-2009: Dec 17 to Dec 27, Jan 1 to Mar 6
Note that snow can last longer in especially shady areas. Snowcover is more variable than I thought. The bolded were rather cold winters, the italicized were rather mild ones.

While co-op and other sites report snow depth at times, the easiest and official reports are from the climo sites and not all report it. In NJ, Only Atlantic City and Newark report it.
Use Shalops post to find it.
Just to add, under "location", click the top few locations that have "area" in it. Such as Newark Area, that's the official site and includes any location changes as well.
I don't like that NowData doesn't include current month. They need to step up and start adding that in. So you have to go back and check yourself in the F6 data

And I don't like even that sometimes, since the offices sometimes report BS data. Note how the snowpack "disappeared" in first third of month only to re-appear w/o having had any new snow a few days later. I'm going to call someone at the office to correct that, retroactively if need be.
