I'll believe it when I see it.

^^

It's possible and not unreasonable to think that the PDO may get back down to neutral by the winter, but we will see....

August/September might see most defined La Nina conditions yet

The water under the surface though is not that cold by anomaly standards. I thought you need really cold water under the surface that builds up from the previous Nino.

Speaking of, you would think all the warm PDO water on the surface would cause the bottom water to become even colder due to no mixing of the layers. I hope when the cold PDO returns, it returns with a vengeance like we haven't seen. I want to see a ring of brutally cold water all along the west coast of North America. Just see what kind of winter Seattle gets if that ever happens.

I think the next update of the models will be less bullish on a cooling PDO, especially after the June number came out to be +2..

Btw AMO index forecast to stay strongly positive into next spring

A positive or maybe neutral PDO, a positive AMO, and weak La Nina or neutral ENSO. Any winter analogs? Lol

One thing seems to be happening is that rain and thunderstorms are starting to happen now here. We are on tap to receive 2" to 3" today into tomorrow with some big tstorms. That doesn't seem like a Nina summer anymore.

Here we go again with a 2014 January, or worse 1984.
We got much less than that kind of rain here. And 1984 was a mild January.

It was 6.8 degrees below average in January 1984 in Philadelphia.

I like the sound of a neutral PDO (probably better than even a cold PDO) with warm AMO and a moderate Nina. Maybe the Nina will turn moderate.

Lol it is hard to find a winter month in the 80's that was not below average. Bizarre decade.

It has the potential too, especially if the PDO keeps dropping. More the PDO drops the stronger this Nina will be.
