This year, I was on Long Island from Jan-Sept and Geneva from Sept-Dec.

For me, February was the highlight of an otherwise boring year. It had a mean anomaly of -11F (-6C). Islip got thrice as much snow as is average (63.7 inches / 162 cm), certainly a positive for me. Most for any calendar year, tied with 2014. January and March were snowiest on record. POR is 1984. In both places, it has been a dry year.

December in Genève was only 1C above average; quite surprising considering much higher anomalies in nearby places. Not complaining! Very foggy. I don't mind fog and overcast conditions since I'm not a fan of sunlight, but the high humidity prevents otherwise colder and drier conditions, which is a big negative for me.

Data from PWS (Jan-Aug) and LSGG (Sept-Dec):

Here is London Heathrow for 2015, guessing the last day's data so may be out by 0.1C, though. I will be interested to see 2015 data from London City airport and other central locations in a few days when the full data is available to see if this December was even more record-breaking in the UHI of the city. I'll post it when it comes out.

December as many know is our warmest on record by quite a distance.. didn't beat any highest temperature records, but certainly a very mild month, also like November was very dull..

Highest min: 13.8C (27th)
Lowest max: 9.2C (13th)

Only one day in December didn't reach 10C! 18 days had a low above 10C, with many of these nights not dropping below 12C.. incredible really!

For the year as a whole, it was a bit meh. April again was warmer and sunnier than average, but March was the only other month to record above average sunshine in a pretty dull year. November was record breaking dull August was a bit of a shocker as well as September. May and September had quite low record max temps compared to normal. Apart from one day in July that recorded 36.7C, it hasn't been a very good year IMO.

Overall a hot month that offered a bit of everything, near record heat, cold chill at night at the beginning of the month, dust haze, wind, a little bit of rain and some distant lighting on one night, which was too far to register as a thunder day. Went out storm chasing on the 18th during which I experienced some thunder and showers in very high temps.

December 2015 in Zagreb:

Highs: 16.0/1.0c
Lows: 4.6/-8.2c

Average high: 6.2c (+1.6c)
Average low: -0.6c (+1.1c)

Precipitation: 1 mm (-58.6 mm)

Sunshine: 57 hours (+7.6)

Overall, a relatively sunny, warm and extremely dry month.

2015 in Croatia:

January brought temperatures about 4c above average, although the temperature fell to -24c on New Year's day. Cyclone Kristina brought up to 200 mm of rain from the 17th to the 19th. On the final day of the month, the sea level pressure fell down to 971.8 hPa, an extremely low value for Croatia.

February started with a cold wave and a snowstorm that brought up to one meter of snow in the mountains (about 25 cm in the Zagreb area) along with bora gusts up to 224 km/h (on the Krk bridge). In the end of the month, cyclones Olja and Petar brought more than 150 mm of rain to the Split area.

March started out with a strong bora event (cyclone Rea), when Split which is usually sheltered, recorded gusts up to 165.7 km/h, the strongest since November 2004. Along with the wind, it also brought extreme precipitation in the southernmost area, with 304.6 mm falling on the 5th near Makarska. In the end of the month there was a strong jugo (southerly wind) event when Split recorded one of its strongest jugo gusts ever, at 130 km/h.

April started out cold and snowy so some places in Dalmatia had a white Easter with bora gusts above 100 km/h. Afterwards, there was a warmup with the first >25c temperatures being recorded on the start of the second half of the month.

May started out hot, with first 30c temperatures reached on the 5th. Along with plentiful heavy thunderstorms in the second half, cyclone Cvjetko affected the weather from the 20th to the 27th, with 173 mm of rain in Kutjevo (but without extreme flooding like in May 2014). As the cyclone moved away, bora strengthened with gusts up to 150 km/h.

June saw the first 35c temperatures on the 5th, with frequent thunderstorms and a nice cooldown near the end of the month.

July was the hottest month ever in many Croatian stations, with most stations breaking their July or all-time records. Zagreb recorded its warmest minimum ever with 24.4c, and so did Rijeka (28.5c, 1.6c more than the previous one) and Senj (30.8c), among others. Zagreb recorded three consecutive days with severe thunderstorms in the final ten days of the month. There was a strong cooldown near the end of the month.

August was also one of the hottest months since the recordings began. Some places even recorded 40c, like they did in July, with a strong cooldown coming on the Assumption of Mary, on the 15th, along with up to 120 mm of rain which was recorded in Zadar. The end of the month brought back the heatwave that persisted through the whole summer.

September brought heat with some records being broken (37.9c in Knin and 37.7c in Gradište along with some other >35c readings). Cyclone Franciska brought up to 150 mm of rain to the Senj area. Cyclone Davor near the end of the month brought 155 mm of rain to Dubrovnik with bora gusts up to 158 km/h.

October was an extremely wet month with five named cyclones, which combined brought near 450 mm of rain to the Vodice area. It brought strong flooding near Karlovac and on the coast.

November was very sunny and dry apart from the cyclone Oto with up to 150 mm of rain in Senj and >60 cm of snow on Zavižan, and Krk bridge recorded bora gusts up to 206 km/h. Rest of the month was either sunny or foggy with temperature inversion. The temperature reached 25c in some places, setting new records.

December was completely dry with low clouds and fog persisting throughout the whole month, even on the coast where it's usually a rare sight. The end of the month brought colder weather, with temperatures down to -10c being recorded.

Zagreb got about the same number of months that reached 0C and months that reached 20C, as my climate.

The numbers for Corvallis, OR, Hyslop Field:
For December, Average Max was 48.4 (9.1) and average Min was 38.2 (~3.4) giving us an average of 43.3 (6.3) or about 3.2 degrees above our long term standard.
This was as drab a month as you can wish for. We had 10.82 inches (or 274.8mm), about 3.19 (81) above standard. We had all of two days out of 31 with 0 precipitation and - maybe - 40 hours of sunshine the entire month. The last two days gave us about 17 of those hours.
How many ways can you say "blah"?
As for 2015.....A marginally colder than normal April and September plus a fairly chilly November kept us off the record books for warmest year ever but we still came in second place out of 136 years of record.
We had a warmest ever February and June and came close with October. Our summer was hot enough to wither some of my cool weather loving veggies. Our climate is normally so Zucchini friendly that by August you can't give them away. This year they just chuckled weakly at the sun then died. I also had trouble with beans and lettuce. On the other hand, we were harvesting peppers clear to November so my garden wasn't a total loss.
Precipitation-wise; In spite of our waterlogged December we still came in with well below average precipitation. The weather bureau hasn't come out with the rainfall figures yet but I get 29.41 inches for the year. Scrolling through the POR I come up with 12th driest of all the months with complete records.

How about 2016? El Nino is projected to remain with us until sometime this spring then fade away. I anticipate a slightly drier winter and one with warmer days but cooler nights. I won't hazard a guess as to the rest of the year but I am fairly sure the coming year will not be as warm or as dry as this one was.

14.39" of rain in my rain gauge this month, which is roughly twice the average

I'm not sure of the temperatures yet but it went back and forth depending on whether a particular storm came from the north (cold) or south (warm). Anecdotally it seemed cooler than last December.

December was the record warmest. What a month.

Also the year was mostly below average, but October and December bumped the year up to above average. Here's the climate box.
