That's interesting coming from a Welshman (I believe?)

I used to have the opposite perspective as well. But forget about that. Having Italian ancestry, and being a native English speaker, it's more satisfying to think about Latin influence on English. Got the Greek covered too, having ancestry from Magna Graecia.

This area was part of Mercia for a while, so I accept the old Anglo-Saxon traditions.

Interesting. I was aware of a similar thing in the case of the Scots. Lowland Scots have substantial Anglo-Saxon ancestry. Highland Scots are Celtic.
