The winters aren't as bad as eastern China/Russia, but overall this is a disgusting climate considering the latitude, without even decent summers to make up for it https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chibougamau#Climate
I think Vladivostok is a bigger joke considering it's right on the coast and it's at 43 N. If it were on the US east coast it would between Boston and Portland, Maine.
Seriously. It's like people think anything less than like 99% sunshine is "low" or "no" sunshine.
People always seem to exaggerate cloudiness here in the US. Even the "cloudiest" places in the Eastern US average around 50% sunshine. Actual cloudy climates would kill for 50% sunshine. People don't know how good they have it here in terms of sunshine compared to other countries at temperate latitudes.
Agreed. My climate has around 40% sunshine and even that isn't that bad. Autumns and winters are very cloudy (35 hours of sun in three months in 2012) but spring and summer bring long days filled with endless sunshine. 400+ hours in the summer months does happen. And let me tell you, when you first see the sun return in March after months of gray it really makes you feel alive.
False! I would never cite that range as "abysmal and feeble". I put sun averages in these categories (and posted this once in the past):
>3600 Might get boring at times, but still highly acceptable
3000-3600 Ideal
2800-3000 Excellent
2600-2800 Very Good
2400-2600 Good
2200-2400 Reasonable
2000-2200 Adequate
1800-2000 Below par
1600-1800 Poor
1400-1600 Very poor
1200-1400 Depressing
< 1200 Unliveable
It doesn't follow that my assessment of a climate whose sun value is in a given range will match that - sun is very important to me, but not of course the only important thing.
Quite a few big cities in China are below 1200 hours, especially Chongqing and Chengdu. Each of them has over 10 million residents.
Kuwait was horrendous for weather. Although we saw more rain than expected it came down in the form of mud as it passed through the dirt in the air. 130 degree temps? Liken that to crawling into an oven with a blow-dryer blasting your face.
Northeast US. Not as extreme as say midwest, but not fun still. Used to be really cold winters and really hot summers...now it seems to be tropical all summer with maybe a blizzard in winter.

So worst? Joke? Not sure I know the difference.
offical record high for the entire country is 129.2F, for kuwait city 125.8F
Where I live..Mobile, AL. It rains almost every other day, and it's close to the water, yet the extra moisture in the air makes it surprisingly cold in winter, even though it hardly ever gets close to freezing. We also see ridiculous variations in temperature daily in fall and winter. It can be freezing in the morning with ice on the ground and by the afternoon, you need short sleeves. We aren't warm all year round like parts of Florida, and we can also have extreme weather, like tornado spawning thunderstorms and hurricanes.
All the u.s. climates which are located in the continental interior aka the u.s. Midwest, this region has some of the most unpredictable and shi**iest weather in the United States!
