Colorado wins absolutely, although California has subtropical climates to the polar, the US central state has more subtypes, the Californian climate has only dry versions of the continental and subtropical climates. In addition the Colorado is a mixture, although there are microclimates does not differ so much between Los Angeles, San Francisco and San Diego in terms of climate. At greater distances from Denver to Aspen you should have passed in only two subtypes because the variation is in all directions and the climates occupy smaller area. I believe that many responded to the state of the American Southwest because of the microclimates and the great variations between the coast and the interior, but which does not reflect so much in itself on climatic types. With 10 climates it loses to other states of Central and Western America. It is also influenced because it is a much more habitable place than other unpopulated mountain ranges with the exception of some villages depending on the region in the center.

Colorado has 16 subtypes, New Mexico has only 14, and most of the state is semi-arid, others are more limited. States to the north will not have subtropical climates and as they go west they have not found humid climates to add up. In spite of this, the other states that have a variation of + -12 are quite varied in any way.
