Does Sydney ever get marine layer though? I remember being in LA on July 14th, 2000, and the high was only about 21.7°C downtown, and couldn't have been over 18.3°C at the coast
There used to be an L.A poster on here who swore that the coldest winter days were around that temperature and would laugh at this question stating that L.A was by far and away much hotter than Sydney. As for myself, I'd say on the average, downtown L.A would feel slightly warmer than Sydney on the average but coastal L.A would feel cooler.
Sydney certainly gets higher dewpoints, but is cloudier in summer. Hard one this as both cities have a ton of microclimates and completely different coastal and inland climates. Coastal LA would certainly feel cooler than anywhere in coastal Sydney in summer, but inland LA would feel warmer than inland Sydney. In winter it's tipped in LA's favour.

Sydney would feel warmer, because you'd be outside, enjoying the nice weather. In Los Angeles, you'd be inside, running an air conditioner, trying to avoid the smog.
Los Angeles is just slightly cooler(1C) than Brisbane, but Sydney is about 3-4 degrees cooler than Brisbane each month. Overall, temperatures in downtown LA are closer to Brisbane.
