Sydney has recorded the highest temperature this century, but yet also the coldest lows. Although North America got those "polar vortexes" a few winters ago, NYC had a really warm December in 2015. Is this global warming or just global extremities? Would you say that the earth is getting more prone to extremes and inconsistent weather conditions, or it is getting warmer?

As I always say, averages are statistically more important than extremes. The average temperature of the planet is slowly increasing.

I would say that not only is the weather becoming more erratic and unpredictable, but that many land surfaces, as well as the oceans are becoming warmer when averaged over the whole planet; however it seems to me that since temperature records only date back to the late 19th century(the reliable temperature records anyway), that it is difficult to say with any level of certainty that the latest uptick in globally averaged land and sea surface temperature is actually being caused by the buildup of greenhouse gases since the start of the industrial revolution; with this being said, I don't believe in manmade or anthropogenic global warming; I simply feel that the earth is going through a warming cycle right now, and I feel that eventually, Mother Nature will reach a new state of climactic equilibrium, whether the new equilibrium is reached in years or decades from now I cannot answer that, but I feel that since the planet has endured periods of warming and cooling in the past, I feel that if this climatic warming is occurring, that it is due to the earth still recovering from the last glacial period.

And what lowest lows would they be then?

They're not mutually exclusive outcomes of course: the Earth could be warming up and be prone to more extremes at the same time.

In any case, there is no doubt whatsoever that the Earth is warming and especially at the poles.

Just forty-some years I know, but there's plenty more where that came from and if people are interested it's easy to find the data (if they choose to be objective).

Not sure about the CBD, but my suburb got a record low of -0.2C in June 2010.

I wouldn't worry about it, your location seems within a very reasonable range. It would require major changes for it to become uncomfortable.

Neither - global cooling. At least according to Cambium.

The climate has probably been warming for the last 10,000 years or so. The weather back then was probably pretty consistent - cold.
