I love the best of both worlds, but overall I favor Mobile for the frequent thunderstorms, it makes for a nice lush subtropical landscape, whereas Austin is leaning more towards almost a semi arid landscape, so I voted for Mobile, it was a very close race though
Mobile's summers are simply perfect imo. Hot, humid, and sunny with consistent convective precipitation in the form of thunderstorms. Austin's certainly doable for me, although it's a bit more variable than I'd like, it seems as if there's a constant battle between humid/moist and dry/drought.
The one thing that's scary about Mobile is that it takes direct hits from tropical cyclones. I live on the coast as well and I've experienced hurricanes, I know what storm surge and high winds can do, but I've never had to deal with direct hit from a category 3 or higher storm.
Mobile.
Austin (and much of Texas) is more humid than people give it credit for AND gets plenty hot. Plus summer is just getting started in late July; their hottest time of year is in August typically whereas Mobile I think has slightly passed peak by then.
And I'm not a fan of drought prone areas during that time of year.
Mobile is maybe a little too wet, but I'd definitely prefer it's summers to Austin's having only 5 days of precip on average in July and August.

The good thing about Mobile is that much of the city has decent elevation, so storm surge wouldn't be too huge of an issue.
