I've started keeping a backup system that only relies on good old fashioned pen and paper and filing cabinets. If I want to see if a thread has been done, then I just need to go to the cabinets, check the index, and then cross reference all the thread titles against the key words in all new titles -if anyone wants to see if a thread has been done, they can just write me a letter, with a self addressed postage paid return envelope and once I have received the letter, I will answer any queries, once I have crossed referenced any key words in the new title you wish to use, against my key word index and then checked to see which of the corresponding options most matches any possible previous thread. I will then be able to supply you with a list of possible previous thread titles matching yours.

No worries. I won't be able to start right away though -I smashed by fingers by mistake, when I was moving the filing cabinets, and won't be able to manually input existing thread titles, and corresponding key words, for another 6-8 weeks.
Sounds like a good idea Joe. I use a similar system now for my weather records. My silly new computer kept corrupting what used to be the electronic spreadsheet, which is now a hand drawn table on some graph paper, indexed nicely in a new filing cabinet.
It's taken three years to develop, but I think this system will be fool proof -I do need a quicker way of matching those key words, with existing thread titles though.
Your system sounds good -I think the computer has had it's day. I've long predicted that people would tire of computers, and all the foolishness that goes with them. I think it's starting to happen now.
The search function on here may as well be eradicated. Most useless piece of trash ever.
