yeah, but sub-10c highs is a bit more than "cool", it's almost winter-like for them. I mean it would be a pretty strong cool spell even here.
Yes, it is obviously a strong cool spell. But such things can happen sometimes in southern Europe in mid-seasons: heavy strong rain or snow falls with very cool temperatures in spring is something I experienced a few times in my life when I was living in Provence. A few years ago when I worked in The region of Montpellier we even had 20cm of snow in early may long the languedoc-roussillon coast. It melted very quickly and we had a normal sunny 20-25C the following days..
People are sruprise to see these kind of phenomenon because they tend to think that these places are like eternal warm and sunny, which they are obviouly not.
That said, that 20cm of snow in early may on the southern French coast is intriguing... do you have any data / info on this ? I know the area quite well and I've never seen snow past early march, so that is interesting.
Why is this shocking? Its at 7000 feet. Mt Washington in NH gets snow in April. Or is it cause its in Spain at 37.17N latitude that this is interesting?
