So this is a popular topic that many probably have talked about, but probably not in a thread like this. So I hear many people talking about how bad their climate is. Things I have heard would be from "San Francisco has cold summers!" or "You think Indy is hot in the summer? Atlanta has the most humid summers of any city in the United States!" or "North Dakota doesn't have a winter! *Laughs in Toronto*" So I wonder how do we truly compare if cities are terrible. Well I am trying to think of a way to see how severe a climate is, in all aspects. Whether it is dew points, pure heat, pure cold, lack of sun, excessive snow, excessive storms, or lack of sun. So I decided to find a way to rate a climate in terms of how severe it is! Points will add or subtract based on the category the month is in. This is still in work I guess.

Mean Temperatures: Taken from Trewartha's chart.

i — severely hot: Mean monthly temperature ≥35 °C (95 °F) or higher - 15
h — very hot: 28 to 34.9 °C (82.4 to 94.8 °F) - 5
a — hot: 22.2 to 27.9 °C (72.0 to 82.2 °F) - 2
b — warm: 18 to 22.1 °C (64.4 to 71.8 °F) + 1
l — mild: 10 to 17.9 °C (50.0 to 64.2 °F) + 2
k — cool: 0.1 to 9.9 °C (32.2 to 49.8 °F) + 1
o — cold: −9.9 to 0 °C (14.2 to 32.0 °F) - 2
c — very cold: −24.9 to −10 °C (−12.8 to 14.0 °F) - 5
d — severely cold: −39.9 to −25 °C (−39.8 to −13.0 °F) - 15
e — excessively cold: −40 °C (−40 °F) or below. - 50

Dew Points:

Dangerous: 27 °C (80.6 °F) or above - 20
Miserable: 24 to 26.9 °C (75.2 to 80.4 °F) - 10
Oppressive: 21 to 23.9 °C (69.8 to 75 °F) - 5
Muggy: 18 to 20.9 °C (64.4 to 69.6 °F) - 3
Humid: 16 to 17.9 °C (60.8 to 64.2 °F) - 1
Comfortable: 13 to 15.9 °C (55.4 to 60.6 °F) + 1
Dry: 12.9 °C (55.2 °F) or under 0

Snow in a month:

Excessively Snowy: More than 127 cm (50 inches) -21
Severely Snowy: 91 to 126.9 cm (35.8 to 50 inches) -13
Very Snowy: 46 to 90.9 cm (18.1 to 35.8 inches) -8
Snowy: 31 to 45.9 cm (12.2 to 18.1 inches) -5
Slightly snowy: 15 to 30.9 cm (5.9 to 12.2 inches) -3
Little snow: 3 to 14.9 cm (1.2 to 5.9 inches) - 1
Irrelevant Snow: 0.2 to 2.9 cm(0.1 to 1.1 inches) 0
No snow: Obv none + 1

Thunderstorms:

Half the month: 15 or more in a month - 25
Very stormy: 10 to 14 storms - 10
Stormy: 5 to 9 storms - 5
Few Storms: 2 to 4 storms - 2
Rare Storms: 1 storm on average 0
Extremely Rare: 0 on average in a month + 1

Well one person's miserable is another's awesome. I love as many thunderstorms as possible from May-September, so that would be a massive bonus, to have as many as possible. Also a summer mean of 29°C would be a big +2 points for me, not -2.

It's subjective, most people here seem to hate my climate, but aside from summer, I think it's one of the best in the country

I know how you feel, lol.

Most people seem to think my taste in preferred climates is awful too

'OMG how can you think that places like Rochester, NY and Labrador City have good climates?!' is something I hear quite often.

That's okay though, we can't have everyone trying to crowd into Phoenix or everyone trying to cram into Erie.

I guess we will need to come up with our own 'Miserable Climate' grading systems!

Oh I was mostly trying to go off of general opinions. If I was basing it on my own opinions, the grading system would be much different to be honest.

Use statistics. From gross population ...landscape and survival ability.
If man loved the cold so much ...more places of such would be populated. It's the species way of migrating for populating.
. Haven't had tea in awhile with east antarctic plateau folks...
