My wife and I, and currently 4 year old daughter moved from NE to SWFL, about two years ago. We, like many, were tired of the long and grey winters of NE. We have some family (father-in-law and mother) that live in SWFL and are snow-birds. This made our transition easier, and helped us make the decision to move. While we do like the area we live in overall (Manatee/Sarasota), I have had a hard time adjusting to the heat. It feels as if we traded one evil for another, as both areas have prolonged extreme weather conditions.
My question is, can anyone share their experiences with these three regions, weather-wise? Any insight on cultural differences and quality of life is welcome as well. This would be our last window of opportunity to move, as we would like to find a permanent place to live before our daughter is in grade school.
We are in our late 30s, have the ability financially to purchase a home, and work in industries that we are confident that we can find employment in.
I am a person who likes change, and that includes seasons (that do not last half of the year) as well as change in scenery. Due to this the Raleigh/Durham area is appealing so far, as it is driving distance to the mountains and ocean, and the seasons seem to only last a few months. We also prefer a suburban setting, as this is what we are used to.
