yes and no. These PNW/Canadian climates are more firmly oceanic and have a clear wet winter / dry summer divide which is less pronounced in Europe once you step out of the actual westernmost parts. I think mostly of german, austrian or hungarian climates, but then again this is not really western Europe anymore. Eastern France is like that to a degree, the summers are certainly wetter than the winters due to more thunderstorms.

I think also that a lot of Europe has very variable summers, so the descriptions made above certainly apply (cool weather in the summer) but you also get more frequent heatwaves than before.

The main clear difference with appalachian climates is that the later are generally quite a bit sunnier and wetter due to location and altitude.

Yeah for sure. They are similar but in no way 1:1. For instance Glasgow and Ketchikan are fairly close in latitude but Ketchikan is colder, wetter, and snowier.

yeah what I mean is that in Europe you are clearly in the oceanic realm in the westernmost parts, while a large part of the continent is more "oceanic-influenced" than actually oceanic and therefore can share similarities to some north american non-western climates. Heatwaves and cold waves exist in Europe too (more the former, lately).

Of course every place is special and it's hard to find two places that are 100% equal, just like when one compares chinese climates to the US South East for instance, or mediterranean climates.
