A lot of the missing data is actually there under hourly data instead of daily data.
For example, here's part of Calgary for December 1992:
If you click on December 25, for example, you see the hourly data is actually there:
So it would probably be possible (although tedious) to reconstruct the daily data at least to a first approximation.
Why is it like this? Who knows. Probably a software glitch and as usual ECCC is demonstrating no initiative in fixing their website or data access. Blame the climate emergency.
BTW, I forgot what an epic cold snap that was for the prairies in December 1992.
