Just imagine how cold it would be further north along the coast, like near SF or something.

I don't have to imagine, I grew up about 25 miles east of SF where during summer it would be 95 where I was then I would go to SF and it would be 65 AND windy usually. The coast in Northern CA is beautiful but very chilly much of the year, don't expect anything over 65 degrees for 95% of the year. The weather along the Northern CA coast sucks in my opinion, which is probably why few people live along it. Some of the towns along the coast farther north have never exceeded 87 degrees ever! After living in San Diego I realize I don't like anything below 66-70 degrees anymore, which is why I want to move to FL for a few years to see if I can handle the heat and humidity there.

I've heard alot about that infamously cold Eureka. That's a climatic horror story.
http://www.rssweather.com/climate/Ca...ureka/temp.png

I just can't fathom how people can live there. It must be the most boring climate on Earth, cold year round, foggy, no thunderstorms, no humidity, no snow, no extreme heat. I'd rather be in Winnipeg!

The Great Ocean Road coast of Victoria has a comparable climate, except about 5-10F warmer on average in summer with regular bursts of day and night heat.

I got this data from here: National Weather Service - NWS Portland

I could've just not typed all this manually but what the hell...

Keep in mind though Portland is at sea level, so once you get some elevation here (as little as 300-500 feet), the temperatures can get more extreme...

for 2008 so far:
102F on August 14th
23F on January 22nd

for 2007:
102F on July 10th
19F on January 14th.

for 2006:
104F on July 21st
22F on February 20th

for 2005:
96F on August 4th (95F on May 27th)
24F on February 15th and December 16th

for 2004:
103F on July 23rd
18F January 6th

for 2003:
100F on July 29th
26F on November 1st

for 2002:
102F on August 13th
26F on January 15th

for 2001:
98F on August 9th
26F on February 7th and 10th

for 2000:
98F on June 27th
24F on November 18th

it's ugly, but it's still warmer than Eureka in summer (72 vs 64).

But here's the worst of all:
