I agree, no to white. Doesnt matter whose wedding it is. Etiquette dictates no white to weddings and its just polite to let her be the only one.

Errrrr... not "right".
That shows disrespect to the bride.
Why????
It'll say... Do you have a secret crush for the groom & secretly wanted to replace the bride at his side????

I was married 29 years ago at a very informal outdoor wedding, and my sister wore a white sundress with a large brown border at the bottom and brown border at the neckline. (one of my favorite pictures is of her three year old daughter wiping her chocolately face on my sister's white skirt!)

I didn't care then, I don't care now -- but people still bring up my sister wearing white on my wedding day.

It's a faux pas -- don't do it.

Nope. Can't upstage the bride, even if you don't intend to do so.

No. Let the bride be the only one in white.

If for no other reason that you don't want to be "that woman" you definitely shouldn't do this.

No.

Tradition dictates that the only one in white is the bride. It is her day, the white dress is the color of the bride. The reason is that the bride should be allowed to stand out from others. The tradition is also there to allow the bride to be the only one in white no matter how formal or informal.

I've got it. You want to draw attention.

Wear a bright-red, all velvet dress (that looks like the fabric used to upholster a Victorian bordello), which also shows a lot of cleavage, and you'll ensure that everyone gets a chuckle and will never forget you!

Don't joke. The groom's aunt at a wedding I recently attended wore that exact outfit. And, to your point, we do still talk about it when I see my friend!
